About Eyelid Surgery

Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Shlomo Widder offers blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, to remove excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, which rejuvenates the eyes. If you have excess skin above your eyes that disturbs your vision, or puffiness underneath your eyes, then this procedure can help you. Blepharoplasty can be performed on upper and/or lower eyelids, or just a single eyelid that is asymmetrical. Although there are differing techniques used for the upper and lower eyelid, both involve sophisticated incision methods that help to minimize scarring as much as possible. During upper eyelid surgery, incisions are made along the natural crease of the eye and in lower eyelid surgery, incisions are created on the inside of the eyelid. At Widder Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery Center in Vienna, VA, our goal is to provide you with the best treatment option and care available so you can look and feel amazing. That’s why, prior to your procedure, you will undergo a thorough exam with Dr. Widder to develop a treatment plan that will yield optimal outcomes. Your results will provide a smooth, natural finish that you will love.

Best Candidates

Good candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who experience:

  • Bags or fat deposits under the eyes
  • Loose skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelid
  • Impaired vision due to hanging skin on the upper eyelid
  • Unhappiness with their facial appearance

What to Expect

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. This procedure is most commonly used to treat excess, loose, and sagging skin around the eyes that can impair vision and make a patient look and feel uncomfortable. This procedure also corrects minor wrinkles and folds around the eyes to improve your appearance. During the procedure, the loose skin around the eye is removed along with any fat pockets through small incisions. For upper eyelid treatment, the removal of excess skin and fat can improve vision and correct the natural fold of the eye.

Other Considerations

Following eyelid surgery, patients should keep their heads elevated for the first several days. Bruising and swelling should be expected and may last up to 3 – 4 weeks. Your surgery results will look their best once your treatment area has healed in 3 – 4 weeks. Patients should expect minimal scarring at incision points, which will be almost invisible to the naked eye.
