What Is a Butt Augmentation with Implant Placement?
Butt augmentation, also known as gluteal augmentation or gluteoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed under spinal or epidural anesthesia, or general anesthesia. It’s typically done on patients who are self-conscious about the appearance of their buttocks due to lacking the shape, volume, or roundness necessary to create curves that highlight the rest of the body’s natural features. Enhancements to buttocks’ size and shape are typically made using two different approaches: fat transfer or gluteal implants.
During a fat transfer butt augmentation, excessive fat cells are transferred to the buttocks using liposuction. Typical donor sites may be the belly, arms, or legs. The problem with this technique is that the fat disappears almost completely within a few months, or even sooner. Butt implants, on the other hand, are medical devices made of silicone that does not disappear. Dr. Widder places implants in the patient’s buttocks through small incisions that are usually hidden between the buttock cheeks. They are placed on top of the gluteal muscles, or beneath muscle fascia (envelope). Like with breast implants, the number one cosmetic surgery in the US, patients seeking buttock augmentation should opt for implants, because fat is unreliable.
What Happens During a Butt Augmentation with Implants Procedure?
The surgery usually takes 3 Hours. It’s done under spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia and in the prone position.
First, a small incision is made to create the implant pocket along the previously demarcated pocket margins. The oval implants are soaked with an antibiotic solution and are placed in the pockets. One split drain is placed in the pockets and brought out through one small incision. The incision is then closed.
What’s the Recovery Like after a Butt Augmentation with Implants?
Butt augmentation with implants is an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll get to go home after a brief recovery period following your surgery. We’ll send you home with bandages covering the incisions, and temporarily pocket drains, or small tubes, to ensure there’s no excessive fluid buildup in the surgical site.
Our surgical team will give you a set of post-op instructions that may include wearing a type of support garment for a month and taking medication (prescription and over the counter) to manage discomfort. You’ll need to rest as much as possible with sitting forward for the first four weeks. You will also need to schedule a follow-up appointment so that Dr. Widder can gauge your progress and clear you for more movement in the following weeks. The entire recovery process takes about six weeks.
Why Choose Dr. Widder for My Butt Augmentation in Virginia?
Your safety and comfort are Dr. Shlomo Widder’s top priorities. If your butt augmentation is part of a larger treatment plan that includes other types of cosmetic surgery, such as a tummy tuck, breast lift, or mommy makeover, Dr. Widder and his surgical team will space out your procedures strategically. This allows your body to use its maximum potential to heal and recover. Some plastic surgery practices cut corners and combine operations to save time, but this can be dangerous and produce poor results in the long run.
Dr. Widder also believes it’s a plastic surgery best practice to work one-on-one with patients before and after their scheduled surgeries. He performs all surgical consultations himself and calls each patient the night of their surgery as part of his follow-up care. Patients also receive his personal cell phone number so he can be reached 24/7, just in case any lingering questions or safety concerns arise.
To help patients better understand what the result of butt augmentation with implants may look like, Dr. Widder has also posted a gallery of before and after photos of his real patients. Feel free to browse his work on a wide range of procedures. You can also sift through Dr. Widder’s real patient reviews on Realself.com to see how much they love their results.
